The days calculator counts how many days there are between two dates, then breaks the result down into weeks, a calendar difference in years, months and days, and the number of weekdays and weekend days. It's useful for deadlines, notice periods, project plans, countdowns, and working out how long ago something happened.
How to count the days between two dates
- Pick a start date and an end date, or click a preset such as 30 Days to count forward from today.
- Decide whether the end date should count as well. Leave Include the end date off for the usual "days between" answer; turn it on to count both the first and last day.
- Read the total number of days, the weeks and remaining days, the calendar difference, and the split between weekdays and weekend days.
You can put the end date before the start date. The tool counts the days the same way and tells you the end date comes first.
Should the end date be included?
This is the most common reason two date calculators give different answers.
- Not included (the default) counts the days between the dates. From 1 January to 31 January is 30 days. This is the answer to questions like "how many days until my exam?" or "how many nights is my stay?"
- Included counts every calendar day from the first date to the last, both inclusive. From 1 January to 31 January is 31 days. Use it when both the first and last days count, such as days of annual leave or the length of an event.
The difference is always exactly one day.
Weekdays and weekend days
The tool counts the actual Mondays to Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays in the period, day by day, rather than estimating.
For example, from Monday 28 September 2026 to Friday 2 October 2026:
- With the end date not included, the period covers Monday to Thursday: 4 days, all weekdays.
- With the end date included, it covers Monday to Friday: 5 days, all weekdays.
Public holidays aren't removed, because they vary by country, region and employer. If you need working days for a contract or a legal deadline, subtract the public holidays that apply to you, and check the rules that set the deadline. Some count only business days, and some exclude the day of the notice itself.
Calendar difference in years, months and days
Months have different lengths, so "how many months" can't be found by dividing days by 30. The tool counts whole calendar months from the start date, then the days left over.
- From 15 May 2020 to 3 October 2026 is 6 years, 4 months, 18 days.
- From 31 January 2026 to 1 March 2026 is 1 month, 1 day. One month after 31 January lands on the last day of February, because February has no 31st; one more day reaches 1 March.
Leap years are handled automatically. From 1 January 2024 to 1 January 2025 is 366 days, because 2024 had a 29 February.
Dates, time zones and daylight saving
The calculator works with whole calendar dates, not times of day. A day is always counted as one day, even across the night when clocks change for daylight saving. The 30 Days and other presets start from today's date in your own time zone.
The hours and minutes shown are simple multiples of 24 hours a day, which is what most people expect. A period that crosses a daylight-saving change contains one hour more or less of real clock time.

How many working days are between two dates?
The Weekdays (Mon–Fri) figure shows the working days for a standard Monday-to-Friday week. Subtract any public holidays in the period.
Why does another calculator show one more day?
It probably counts the end date by default. Turn on Include the end date here and the numbers will match.
Can I count days in the past?
Yes. Choose any two dates. If the end date is earlier than the start date, the tool still shows how many days apart they are.
Is anything I enter saved?
No. The calculation happens in your browser, and nothing is sent anywhere.
