Split PDF lets you pull specific pages out of a PDF, or break one long PDF into several smaller files. Use it to send only the signature page of a contract, separate a scanned stack of documents into individual files, or cut a large report into chapters small enough to email. Everything happens in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.
How to split a PDF
- Drop your PDF onto the tool or click Choose file.
- Choose what you want to do:
- Extract pages creates one new PDF containing only the pages you pick.
- Split into files creates several PDFs, one for each part.
- Pick the pages. For extracting, click page thumbnails or type the pages, such as
1-3, 7. For splitting, choose every page, every N pages, or your own ranges. - Click the button to extract or split.
- Download the result: a single PDF, or a ZIP file containing all the parts.
Writing page ranges
The page box accepts a simple list, and page numbers start at 1:

When extracting, the new PDF keeps pages in the order you type them. Typing 5, 1-4 moves page 5 to the front, which is an easy way to reorder pages. Clicking thumbnails always keeps pages in their original order.
When splitting by custom ranges, each range becomes its own file. 1-3, 4-10, 11- makes three PDFs. The thumbnails are labelled with the file each page will go into, so you can check the split before you run it.
Choosing a split method
- Every page turns each page into its own one-page PDF. It's ideal for a stack of scanned single-page documents such as receipts, certificates or ID copies.
- Every N pages makes files of equal length. For example, a 40-page scan of two-page forms, split every 2 pages, gives 20 separate forms.
- Custom ranges handles chapters or documents of different lengths.
When a split creates more than one file, you download them together as a ZIP. Files are named after the original and the pages they contain, such as report-pages-1-3.pdf, so they sort in order.
Quality and file size
Splitting copies pages exactly as they are. Nothing is re-rendered or re-compressed, so text stays selectable and images keep their quality.
Split files are sometimes larger than you'd expect. A font or logo used on every page is stored once in the original PDF, but each new file needs its own copy. Splitting a 10 MB PDF into ten parts can therefore produce parts that add up to more than 10 MB. This is normal.
Limitations
- Password-protected PDFs can't be split. Remove the password in your PDF reader first by saving an unprotected copy of a file you own.
- Bookmarks, fillable form fields and accessibility tags aren't carried into the new files. Fill in and save forms before splitting if you need the answers.
- Very large PDFs with hundreds of pages or hundreds of megabytes work best on a computer, since the whole document is held in your browser's memory.

Is this tool free to use?
Yes. You can split and extract as many PDFs as you like without signing up, and no watermark is added.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened and split by your own web browser. It is never sent to a server, so the tool is safe to use with private documents.
How do I extract just one page from a PDF?
Choose Extract pages, type the page number (or click that page's thumbnail), and click Extract 1 page. You'll download a one-page PDF.
How do I delete pages from a PDF?
Extract the pages you want to keep. For example, to remove page 3 from a 10-page file, extract 1-2, 4-10. The downloaded file is your PDF without page 3.
Can I rearrange pages with this tool?
Yes, within limits. When extracting, pages are saved in the order you type them, so 3, 1, 2 puts page 3 first. To combine pages from different files, split them first and then join them with Merge PDF.
Can I turn the pages into images instead?
Yes. Use PDF to JPG to save each page as a JPG or PNG image.
